Memento
Fragments of the Srebrenica Genocide is a multimedia educational project containing real-life stories and portraits of Srebrenica Genocide survivors and victims’ families detailing their life and their fight to survive during the genocide. The project includes a photography exhibition, mobile app, audio testimonies and a photo-book of Srebrenica Genocide survivors.
The project is based around objects donated by Srebrenica Genocide survivors and victims’ families, objects found in mass graves around Eastern Bosnia, and objects found on the path of the infamous ‘Death March’. Each object is paired with a portrait of the person who donated it and their personal testimony and commemorates the lives of 115 people who were killed.
MEMENTO is based on findings from the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Missing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Center.
This project and exhibition are part of the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Center’s permanent art installations.
